Bunny infiltrates classroom

Kat Van Sice brings her bunny out of her bag.

Matilda, the 2-year-old Lionhead Rabbit, has made her appearance all around Broadneck High School. Junior Kat Van Sice brought her bunny to school on Wednesday, Jan. 11, only to be taken out of class by DJ Hunt and taken down to administration where she was told to take out Matilda.

Administrators pulled out their iPhones, took pictures, and simply said to not bring the rabbit again.

Matilda was rescued from the SPCA by Van Sice two years ago when the rabbit was about 9 months old.

“When I got her she was a sketchy little thing, but now she’s so chill,” said Van Sice. Matilda has come to school with Van Sice three or four times. “All my teachers think she’s so cute.”

Matilda is content with just sitting in Van Sice’s lap during classes. “The only thing she leaves behind is a little puff of fur,” said Van Sice. Matilda is carried around in a bag with some water and carrots. At home Matilda is litter-box trained and gets along with Van Sice’s dogs.

School is not the only place Matilda likes to go. Van Sice also brings her to restaurants and even the movie theater. “People are always like ‘Is that real?! Oh my gosh! It’s so cute!’” said Van Sice. “I’ve had teachers make me take her out and show the whole class.” Matilda seems to enjoy some of Van Sice’s friends too. “She snuggles up into my friend Zach Fountaine’s beard.” Van Sice said she probably will leave Matilda at home from now on because she does not want to get in trouble with administration.
